Advice from the experts – Worker Preparation Day
The best VBS leaders are learners, and the best learners enjoy sharing with others what they have learned through trial and error. Following are words of advice that have been collected through the years from great leader-learners just like you.
- Enlist volunteers – who might not be able to work the week of VBS – to help move furniture, decorate, and sort, cut, and package craft supplies.
- Provide childcare for younger children and a fun activity, possibly off campus, for older children.
- Provide a come-and-go meal or snacks for both workers and kids. At the least have a generous supply of cold drinks and bottled water on hand.
- Have someone available the entire time who can answer questions and give directions. If you are the person with all the answers, send others on errands so you do not have to leave the campus.
- Have doors unlocked, resources, decorations and supplies available, and knowledge of what can and cannot be moved from rooms before the first worker arrives.
- Have volunteers in the parking lot or near entrances to help workers unloading their cars.
