Put Galactic-Themed Candies to Work for VBS
We’re now in the final push to enlist volunteers for VBS. If you find yourself with spaces yet to fill, resist the temptation to put out another call to the masses. Instead, extend personal invitations—complete with a sweet treat—to be part of VBS! Here are some ideas to try:
- Deliver a galactic treat with a personal note to preschool/children’s Sunday School teachers, asking them to serve in VBS.
- Ask for 5 minutes to speak in an adult Sunday School class or department. Hand out space-themed candies for adults to enjoy while you share your vision for VBS. Share the “heart” or the “why” behind VBS and list specific ways people can get involved. Follow-up with individuals who show interest and ask them personally to serve.
- Write each volunteer position yet to be filled on a strip of paper. Attach each strip to a full-size candy bar. Arrange the candy bars on a display outside the Worship Center. Invite people to choose a volunteer role and enjoy the candy that accompanies it.
- Send a personal note (with candy) to each volunteer who participated in VBS last year but has yet to sign up this year, asking them to serve again.
The following candies are perfectly on theme for Galactic Starveyors. Not only are they useful for enlistment, they also make great VBS teacher appreciation gifts!
