10 Tips from Top Christian Educators
I recently attended a workshop led by some of the top Christian educators in the Nation – Bruce Raley, Alan Taylor, Eric Geiger, Jeff Young, and Alan Raughton. Here are a few of my take-a-ways:
- We never create momentum just by fixing problems. Take advantage of the blessings and try to move them along further.
- God has placed people in our congregation just the way He wants them. When we fail to use people we disregard God’s call on their lives and God’s call (purpose) for our church.
- People would probably be happy if the staff were just doers, but that is not our job. We are to be leaders.
- As staff, our job is to Discover. Develop. Deploy.
- Jesus welcomed us, therefore we must welcome others.
- We must give more time to strategic preparation than we do to strategic planning.
- We spend most of our time preparing people for the role they are already in instead of the role they will be in.
- Mission is the What. Strategy is the How. There has to be a clear how or the mission becomes burdensome.
- Sustaining and expanding growth depends on the continual development of new leaders.
- HOPE is not a strategy.
