Create Meaningful Moments at VBS Snack Time
By Jenny Howell
The excitement is building around communities as the best week of summer arrives to churches all over the map!
Lifeway’s Twists & Turns Vacation Bible School welcomes kids for an incredible week where they will play their way through VBS while learning that Jesus guides them through all the twists and turns of their lives. They’ll find that even when they mess up it’s never “game over.”
Teams are preparing to lead Level Up Music, teach at The Bible Study Game Room, create at Wild Card Crafts, think globally at Multi-player Missions, play games at Ready, Set, Rec, and quite possibly the crowd favorite—creating memories at Skip Ahead Snacks!
Snack time is the perfect opportunity to spend time getting to know your kids, hear about their lives, and help them get to know Jesus. Taking a minute or two to review the Bible story and verse works great during snack time. Remember to keep it simple and have fun.
Whether you are making VBS snacks or eating the VBS snacks, you’ll be WINNING this summer. Check out this themed snack idea that you might want to try:
DOMINOES
Supplies
- Brownie mix (including ingredients called for on the box)
- 1 container chocolate icing
- 1 bag white chocolate chips
Kitchen Tools
- Baking pan
- Plastic knife
- Toothpicks
Serving Size: Serve 2-3 Dominoes per child.
Steps
- Bake brownies according to the package directions.
- Spread chocolate frosting evenly over the tops of the brownies and cut into rectangles. Cut columns, each slightly larger than 1 inch in one direction and columns about 3 inches wide in the opposite direction.
- Press a line across the center of each rectangle with a toothpick. Place white chocolate chips onto the top of each domino in numbered sequences just like actual dominoes.
- For a clean cut, use a plastic knife while brownies are still warm.
Options
- Use mini colored chocolate candies for more colorful Dominoes.
If your church chooses to purchase snacks, everything you need for the Twists & Turns themed snack ideas can be store bought and easily prepped for a fun week of snacks!
The VBS Snack Rotation Recipe Cards contain 20 theme recipes in addition to the 5 Bible-related snack ideas. You can choose to complete all the steps and serve up the fun, or you can save some steps for kids to do so they can participate as well as enjoy a yummy snack. Dinner menu suggestions are given for churches that provide meals each day of VBS or during VBS Celebration times.
We pray that the gospel will change the game in the lives and homes of your kids, especially through your conversations and getting to know more about your kids at Skip Ahead Snacks. We can’t wait to hear about all the ways your kids connected with Jesus this summer at VBS.
