This VBS is a game changer
The secret is out! Lifeway’s VBS for the summer of 2023 is …
Spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win! You’ll need to bring your A-game for this VBS! Twists & Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. From classic tabletop games to strategy games to video games and more, kids will play their way through VBS in fun locations such as the Bible Study Game Room, Wild Card Crafts, Multi-player Missions, and Skip Ahead Snacks! But more importantly, they’ll see Jesus through the eyes of one of His closest friends and discover that trusting Jesus as Savior and following Him changes the game entirely!
Life is not all fun and games—even after becoming a Christian. It’s full of twists and turns that can leave us feeling like we’ve taken one step forward and two steps back. That was certainly the case for Peter. He messed up; he stumbled; he wasn’t perfect. But even when Peter messed up, it wasn’t “Game Over.” God still worked through Peter to help others learn about Jesus. As kids study five of Peter’s encounters with Jesus, they’ll discover that Jesus is holy, trustworthy, forgiving, worth following, and for everyone!
Jesus guides us through all the twists and turns of our lives. He helps us know His ways and teaches us His paths. (Psalm 25:4) Following Jesus changes everything!
VBS Scripture: Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. Psalm 25:4 (CSB)
Motto: Following Jesus changes everything.

Is there a VBS Song Video I can download to show at the end of this years VBS to let the kids and teachers know what’s coming next year?
Melita Thomas says
No, but you can download the Theme Song and the theme reveal video from our website to use as a teaser at the end of your VBS. Here’s the link: https://vbs.lifeway.com/vbs-programs/vbs-2023-twist-turns/

Oh, my goodness my creative juices are in high gear. I’ve already designed several things I will use for Adult VBS 2023 and will also use for our Association Adult VBS leader training session.
One designed piece is the attendance sheet. I always create one to go along with each year’s theme. Just adds more impact to the theme each year.

Would love to see some pictures of the craft ideas so churches can start planning and take advantage of back to school sales, etc. on needed supplies. It doesn’t need to be the full instructions, but pictures would be so beneficial!
Melita Thomas says
Hi AJ! Glad you’re excited about Twists & Turns! We’re still putting the finishing touches on the craft materials, but they will be released on Dec. 1.
Jeal Hill says
Is there a catalog that I can order now? I’m ready to get things started!!! LOL
Melita Thomas says
Not yet, but we will have one available this fall. Coming soon!
Jack Anderson says
The GAME theme sounds fun. I do pray that LifeWay is staying far away from all aspects of GAMING (gambling industry) and their themes. Our state is currently in a heated battle with the gambling/gaming industry putting multiple millions of dollars and tremendous pressure on our state legislature and our governor to allow for full blown casino gambling and a state-sponsored lottery.
In addition, I pray that well-meaning individual churches will steer clear of the GAMING images and concepts in their decorations and activities.
As an associational missionary, I will be strongly cautioning our churches.
Melita Thomas says
Thanks, Jack! You’ll only see family games in Twists & Turns.
Lisa Moore says
When will information about the preview events be released?
Melita Thomas says
Soon!
Rachel R says
I am so excited for this!
I will be leading our preschool group, so looking for lots of thoughts on decorations and other plans for this group. I am also excited to see what I can use of the older group options (I don’t really care for the separate music or stories for the little ones).
Thanks for releasing this over the summer, so we have plenty of time to prepare!

Is there material for a skit? Also is there going to be a more in depth free sample?
Melita Thomas says
Yes, skits for opening and closing rallies each day are provided in the Worship Rally Guide. You can see a sample of the Day 1 Worship Rally outline (with skit) at lifeway.com/vbs. A script for a musical is also available in The Music Book.
