We are perplexed, but not in despair – VBS 2016 Impossible Clues
Lifeway’s VBS team has had great fun playing VBS 2016 Impossible Clues. We hope you have as well. Given the number and intensity of guesses, I pretty sure you have.
You have guessed the extreme, the obvious, the outrageous, and a few have even been very close to the actual theme at times.
Your guesses have included Hospital/Medical, Time Travel, New Mexico, Texas, Texas, Texas, TEXAS, Cowboy/Western, Yellowstone National Park, Trip Across America, Ocean/Sea, Robots, Creation, Transportation, the Rio Grande River, Noah, Gold Rush, Pirates, Route 66, Marathon Race, Mining, Stagecoach, Wyoming, Trains, Back to the Future, and many more. Each could be a fun theme, but alas, we can only have one and it is…….
You have proven yourselves to be excellent Biblical scholars with so many great Scripture references, but my favorite verse during the past five days is 2 Corinthians 4:8 – “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair:…” Of course the verse was not a suggestion for the theme, but a statement of how many of you – especially the person who submitted the verse – felt as you tried to unscramble the Impossible Clues.
VBS people are the best people in the world. Lifeway’s VBS team lovingly refer to you as VBS Groupies or Geeks. We enjoy hearing from you throughout the year and meeting you at Preview in January. You bring sunshine to our day and hearts, especially when you allow us to have a little fun by tormenting you each year with the theme reveal.
We realize many of you – as well as many of our team – are in the thick of VBS 2015 this week. Even though we are announcing the theme for 2016 we have not lost sight of the immediate. You are in our prayers as you Journey Off the Map and proclaim the Gospel through VBS. Some of you have already completed VBS 2015 and are in the continued connections phase. There is much work to be done!
Several of you suggested creation or Genesis as the them. I love the first four words of Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God.” My prayer is that in the midst of the stress and potential despair of VBS and continued connections these words will be a reminder of God’s presence and power. What is unknown to us, is definitely known to Him, and He will supply all our needs.
Thanks again for playing Impossible Clues. We can hardly wait until 1:00 p.m. (CST) today – that’s why we are actually starting at 12:40. You are going to love the theme – I promise!

Sonshine State or maybe SaddleRidge Ranch II

The titles of the video are the Gospel presentation. know we are sick-baptized – on fire – and going to tell about Jesus. The only clue in the word puzzle that was not an old VBS was the one about God’s love is always there. That happened to be in our Lifeway’s Sunday School lesson on the video and flashed on the screen. I would think that coincidence but having seen way too many of these VBS hints. I am not sold on coincidence. Hints that stuck out were the :07 on the intro in the corner.
The verse Matthew 6:26-28 is part of VBS – The bird flash and the lilies flash
Lessons will include creation – and somehow address evolution (gorilla hands)
I have two different thoughts
1. Movie theme – Toy Story reference, It’s a Wonderful Life reference.
2. Toy Inventor/store theme
brenda reading says
Does it have anything to do with movies?
Jerry Wooley says
Well, there are some really cool movies based on the theme.

We guess Pink Panther, Inspector Cluso,
Jerry Wooley says
I’m not sure the Pink Panther would have arrived at this conclusion, but good guess. Glad to have First Baptist Church, Braymer, MO playing Impossible Clues.
Robert Grafton says
Create in me a clean heart
Charlotte Carpenter says
I think the 2016 Theme has something to do with God searching our hearts… really deep down. We are all different – yet He loves us just the same. His love is bigger than Texas! 🙂 Psalm 139: 23-24.
Jerry Wooley says
Charlotte, I like where you are headed. One of a favorite Scriptures.
Cathy Farley says
The Psalms of Ascension??

Tricia Elam says
Definitely Texas bound with the state bird and flower and the boot should mean old west (back in time) Not sure how the (Good Combination) fits in. God’s truth and mystery.
Kim C says
My kids are trying to help me guess. We are thinking something about being part of the Body of Christ. Or the truth is Jesus saves us, not our works.
Kelly Schley says
I’m thinking a western/Texas theme! TRULY hoping so!!! Would LOVE a western theme.
Cheryl Gray says
I tried to post a guess using my email address, but no luck! My guess is “Getting to Know our God” – He is Creator, He is everywhere, He is eternal, He knows all, etc.
Naomi king says
something to do with Texas with all the bluebonnets the bird the Texas flag and several things that flashed.I haven’t yet figured out what the number five, star, and dove mean on the blocks yet.
Amanda Grubbs says
I’m thinking something along the lines of Texas maybe Old west or old West Bank robbery , Texas Rangers and the verse I think could be Psalm 51:10

Last try! The theme verse will be something from Romans, either Romans 5:6-7, Romans 6:5-7 or Romans 7:5-6. The theme might have something to do with prison or being set free, or maybe something to do with water. Truth and heart also most likely play into the theme.
Tammy says
I may be eating my words in 30 minutes, but I think Texas is way to obvious, and we did the weatern theme 2 times already. Could be time travel. I kinda wish it was a Bible related theme. We’ve never done that.
Angie says
007!
Roy Mitchell says
Your right those are impossible clues
Anna Rickards says
My guess is something to do with being an Outlaw for God . . . having your heart changed by His truth and then being on fire with spreading the Gospel!
