In Journey Off the Map, Dad gets a lift from moths of unusual size. The crew made it happen with the help of a front-end loader, an uncomfortable harness, and a very gracious and athletic actor (Jeremy Spear).
The tree-house in Journey Off the Map is real and provided a wonderful shooting location. Carrying equipment and set pieces across the swinging bridge and standing on the see-through plexiglass floor…once again required cast and crew to face down a fear of heights.
One of the locations in Journey Off the Map, is actually part of a system of bunkers built after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, in anticipation of additional attacks, which never occurred. Watch carefully, because the location is not obvious in the film.
Journey Off the Map includes a fast get-away scene. Taiana (Julian) actually learned to drive the six-wheeled vehicle, though the location was too close to a small cliff for anyone’s comfort.
