It's Time to Pray for VBS Down the Street and Around the World

The third Sunday of May (17th) is National Day of Prayer for VBS. The day serves as a reminder that the transformational ministry of Vacation Bible School is Kingdom work. The mission and impact of VBS is far greater than just one church, one denomination, or one country.
It’s a day to pause from the hurried pace of preparation to reflect on why we do VBS in the first place, and it’s a time to give thanks for the results of previous Bible schools and the potential of schools to come.
Millions upon millions of kids, teens, and adults have come into relationship with Jesus Christ as a result of an introduction first made during VBS. Thousands upon thousands have followed God’s call to mission fields and vocational ministry. It’s a ministry that has planted churches and given hope and renewed strength to worn out congregations.
For many churches VBS is the biggest evangelistic push of the year, resulting in the largest harvest. On average, 10 percent of everyone participating in VBS identifies themselves as unchurched. When parents and siblings are added we collectively discover over 1,000,000 unchurched individuals each year during the weeks of VBS – averaging 40 individuals per school.
Families who would never enter the doors of a church for any other reason continue to cross the threshold for VBS. Families who would never hear the name of Jesus uttered in an edifying manner do so because of the ministry of VBS. And, families who would never hear the Gospel proclaimed do so because people just like you give a week of their lives to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
When you gather with your church family May 17, encourage them to pray not only for your own VBS, but for the Bible schools down the street and around the world.
