VBS is great for the kids, but what about the parents? If you have read this blog for any length of time you know I am a great proponent of providing VBS for the entire family by including Student and Adult VBS. But what about the parents who are unable or just won’t attend? How can we connect with them?
The Takin’ It Home CD, first introduced as part of the VBS 2014 resources, and is designed to connect parents to the daily activities and Biblical content of VBS. Each family is given a copy and encouraged to play daily segments as they drive home. The hosts connect with the kids and challenge them through games and conversation to recall key points of the Bible lesson and theme. In doing so the driver is also being introduced to the key teachings of the week. By the end of the week parents are being encouraged to participate in the conversation, pray with their kids, and to return the following Sunday.
The Takin’ It Home CD for VBS 2015 is now available in the Journey Off the Map Jump Start Kit, and Lifeway’s VBS is beginning preparation for Takin’ It Home VBS 2016.
We heard some great Takin’ It Home stories from VBS 2015, and we would love to hear how Takin’ It Home impacted the lives of the families attending your VBS.

We really loved the ‘Takin’ It Home’ CD last year. As we were preparing for our fall kids’ outreach, a group of us were marching in a local parade in October and handing out candy and invitations to our event. One of the families that I approached said, “Oh that’s our Bible School church!” Then the mom told me, “We still have the CD in the car and listen to it. The kids love it.”
