What Training Does Your Team Need?
When Lifeway Christian Resources introduced VBS resources in 1925 an emphasis was placed on training workers to use those resources. Ninety years later, training not only remains a Lifeway priority but is offered in more ways than ever.
Lifeway’s VBS resources include how tos in every leader guide, training videos at lifeway.com/vbs. National Preview events in North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. State and regional training events across the U.S., Canada and Mexico – hosted by our state and associational partners. One-on-one consultations. Posts right here throughout the year – especially April is for Training – as well as Lifeway’s Kids Ministry 101 blog.
Our newest venue for online training is Ministry Grid where subscribers can already find a variety of courses designed for pastors, VBS directors and leaders of Backyard Kids Club. But hold on. We’re getting ready to make this training available for free! You and your team will be able to receive training for Journey Off the Map and Zip for Kids at a time and place that is most convenient for you. Rest assured I will let you know when this great training opportunity is live.
We are in prep mode at the moment making a list of training needs and would appreciate your help. What issues of VBS leadership does your team need the most help with? What aspects of daily preparation do your age-group workers struggle with? What do your newest VBS workers need the most help with? If you designed a training video for your age-group workers, what would you include?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
As a VBS Director, I would love to have a training or maybe even several different training sessions on how to handle issues such as volunteer background checks, handling serious accusations made by parents and children, suggestions for keeping your VBS secure, best practices for dealing with dismissal, parents that come to pick up their children early, medical emergencies, etc. There just aren’t enough resources for dealing with sticky situations that come up.
Any ideas or nearby training for director? I live in Berry, Alabama near Tuscaloosa
Deb, contact your the local association of Southern Baptist churches for the Tuscaloosa area or contact James Blakeney with the Alabama Baptist Convention. There are more VBS leaders trained in Alabama than any other state so I am sure there is a training event planned near you.
