Let the Guessing Begin!
The question I get asked more than any other is, “Can you tell me the VBS theme for next year?” Which is followed by my standard response, “I can tell you, but I’ll have to kill you.”
Since you have all been so good and only a few of you have asked so far this year, I’m going to let you in on a big secret. Are you ready? Now read this following sentence as quietly as possible. We’re going to release the Lifeway VBS 2012 theme live Monday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. (CST)
I know some of you are saying, “That’s too many days away. I just can’t stand it. Tell me NOW!” So for those of you who do not possess the virtue of patience we are providing the following clue for your entertainment pleasure.
[vimeo https://vimeo.com/24230654]
Think you got it figured out? Don’t worry, there will be another clue tomorrow.
Actually there will be multiple impossible clues each day, but we have added an extra challenge. In addition to the clues posted here you will need to put on your investigation cap. We have hidden clues all over the web (or at least the portion related to Lifeway). A good place to start is with Lifeway’s VBS e-newsletter. Go to www.lifeway.com/vbs and click on the “sign up for e-mail updates” tab.
Once you think you have it figured out let us know by responding to this post. You will be entered into a sweepstakes that begins today at 12:59 p.m. (CST) and runs through noon (CST) June 6. We will randomly pick three entries who will each receive a VBS 2012 Sampler.
Let the guessing begin!
Betsy Waters says
I’m really hoping it’s a cooking theme – it would be so fun to create with the kids!! So many stories could tie directly in to the theme! Daniel ate good food, oil to make bread, and so many more!!
stacy barton says
maybe a magic or mystery theme?
L P says
Russia? That part of the world has been so open to the Gospel recently, so a wonderful thing to share for Missions. Also, what beautiful people and culture. It would be so fun to decorate!
Dawn says
Mission Possible!
Vicki says
Superheroes?
greg says
Oh cool, a Where’s Waldo theme! It’s like looking for a needle in a ball stack?
Lori says
Maybe related to Scotland?
Kelley says
I am thinking maybe a circus or magic theme. Either would be fun!
Kayla Storey says
I think it’s gonna be a lottery(money) theme! maybe???
Kyle says
I think that the theme is going to be a circus or magic theme!
valerie sharlow says
Hoping for a old fashioned toy shop theme! 🙂
Rae Edwards says
Love the Suspense…way to go Jerry you have a very creative team!
Debbie says
I agree with Dawn – it’s going to be a Mission Possible theme!
ginger says
Love Greg’s thought… needle in a haystack…Where’s Waldo type…
Love this fun of guessing! Thanks!
Connie Holly says
I think a Circus theme or an Amusement Park theme.
Marta says
I love the guessing and clues…..I’m thinking it will be a mystery or mission possible….fun!!
Vanessa says
I’m thinking arcade… It sounds like a pinball machine in the background. My first thought was bowling, but then I could hear what sounds like someone pushing the “flipper” buttons on the side of the pinball machine.
marla gillespie says
a circus or gameshow theme would be fun.
What I’d like to see- something about the disciples. I have so many ideas for crafts for all sorts of themes. Fishers of Men, Fiery furnace, of course cowboy and beach. I can’t wait to see what is coming!!!! We haven’t done space or cooking yet unless it was before my time as the craft lady.
I think on craft ideas all year and get stuff together and just have to wait and see what the theme is so I can run with my ideas. I’ve got crafts ready for two years of cowboy VBS and two years of Beach VBS.
The Big Apple theme stumped me for a bit when I first saw it but now it’s fun and the ideas just keep coming!! I can’t wait to see what we are in for next! 🙂
Christi Queen says
My first thought was circus or amusement park/fun park.
But later I thought it might be a detective/mystery theme.
Matthew says
You could be right. Lifeway’s VBS could be the amusement park or theme park. And club VBS could be a remake of kingdom caper
Susan says
OK… so, what is on the ground among the superballs. I think it is toothbrush… A DENTAL THEME! Brushing and flossing for Jesus! Love it! :O) hee hee hee hee….
Susan says
I think it will be a game show theme
like “Minute to Win It” or some such
after all, it just takes a minute to receive
Christ and the prize you win is beyond description. . .
Katie says
I’m thinking a detective or mystery theme. Or an arcade.
Brenda says
I agree on circus theme something like”The Amazing Big Top”.
Amy says
I think an amusement park theme would be fun!
Christina Scroggins says
I’m thinking a space theme. Not sure though. There is a Kalediescope moon and then the superball just reminds me of planets. I don’t know. I guess I will be tuning June 6th! 🙂
Michaela Ports says
Okay, here’s what I’ve seen so far, “Keep your eyes peeled” on the newsletter, kaleidoscope on the VBS Website, and superballs on the blog. So, I’m thinking it could be China, since they’re the largest manufacturer of both those products (but you already did China a while ago). The original inventors of the superball and the kaleidoscope are both from southern CA, so maybe a California theme. I’m not sure what to think of the peeled clue. Doesn’t fit yet. I suppose I’ll have to keep guessing.:)
Michaela Ports says
Oh, wait. Don’t count this one for the comment competition (I think that would be cheating). But, had to comment again. “Peeled” as in orange peels, as in Orange County, CA. Yup, that’s my guess!
Melba says
Powerball? Has to be a La. theme! We have powerball – was against it myself! Like the La theme – gators, spanish moss, crawfish, red beans & rice – POPEYE’S FRIED CHICKEN! Y’all are invited to attend!
Teri Barr says
Science theme! Maybe CSI-ish! I hope! I hope! I love science!
Leisha Wetzel says
I agree with the Mission Possible idea. And after watching a few more clips, I was almost thinking Egypt?
Mary says
Looks like molecules. Faith vs. science?
Melanie says
The fair or a circus!
Sara says
Did some searching on the (W3? World wide web?) and found that the Kaleidoscope was invented in 1817 by a Scottish inventor {David Brewster} and the meaning of the word is “observer of beautiful forms”…then “super ball” was invented in 1964 by a chemist {Norman Stingley}….and Papier mache goes back 1500’s –very interesting reading on the history and use of papier mache in ancient churches? I hope this SCIENCE THEME is it..because I have learned so much already—and can really see it going with VBS!!
Stacey says
I think it my be a science experiment theme.
Jamie says
I am agreeing that it looks like a science theme. That is also not one they have done before.
Tammy Jones says
I think it’s a science fair theme!
Mary says
I don’t remember doing the Mt. Extreme VBS program before. Looks like an outdoors family theme i.e. camping, etc.
Shelagh Daniel says
I thought a Hawaii theme but now I’m leaning toward science.
Lisa says
It doesn’t matter what the theme is…. They have been awesome since I was in VBS thirty years ago… Now I teach the music… Love Jeff Slaughter by the way!!!!
Kathy Martin says
Makes me think of Pompeii, Mount Vesuvious, or Italy????
I LOVE VBS, whatever the theme, can’t wait! :0)
Tina Aslinger says
Mission Possible or a spin on Amazing Race with Amazing Grace theme.
Kim says
mission possible …looking-searching-discovering the truth. …it’s gonna be a long wait til the 6th. lol
Shirley Herline says
I think the 2012 VBS theme is MT Extreme.
Kristin says
Mt. Extreme was in 1999. It was the Ultimate Good News Challenge.
Naomi Andrs says
What is the pencil thing in the middle of all of the bouncy balls?
Jennifer Reddicks says
ok…I GOT IT!!!! Its a Magic detective who uses science to teach kids! He travels to Italy, China, Seattle, the circus or possibly Russia. He visits The Mall of America dressed as a Superhero like Where’s Waldo!
Kim says
I am guessing the thing on the floor that is hard to see might be the actual name of the VBS….. can anyone zoom in and read it???
Barbara Robertson says
We are headed to Hawaii, exploring the mysteries and what lies ahead.
Rachel Taylor says
The object at the end appears to be a needle. It reminds me of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington!
Diane A says
How about a Midway Island Carnival?
Matt Simpson says
I think the theme revolves around our national parks system…. Teddy Roosevelt in the savings clip created our national park system, in family photos they are visiting a natural resource, and in the close encounters clip we see mashed potatoes, in the movie “close encounters” the main character builds a model of Devils tower, one of our national park monuments out of mashed potatoes.
ginger says
Good guess, Matt. I can see that one working well, and it does fit with the clues so far given. Good idea! Remember, we did Hawaii just a few years ago. 🙂
stephanie deyo says
Private Eye theme?
Natalie says
Lots of thoughts out there and last years clues were confusing too. It could be something different like Mediterranean themed (Greek/Italy). “Grace” could be the Biblical part of it. The carnival or mystery idea is good but we did Kingdom Caper so most likely not a “mystery” one. Alot of ideas for a science themed one and those are good thoughts too! We will see on Monday!
Danielle says
I am thinking maybe something to do with Old Times but not western .Maybe private eyes and mystery….
Joan Draper says
Could we be on a hunt for National Treasures? Exploring the “lost”?
Christina White says
I think the theme is in space
Emily B says
